What if you were defined by the worst thing you ever did? Today is an age of mass incarceration in the U.S., and the nation is experiencing an enormous fallout of consequences related to massive institutional intervention. Prisoner reentry has become a pressing issue so it’s prudent to investigate and verify obstacles ex-offenders experience especially, as they would relate to public perceptions and the stigma of a marked record. The ability to gauge what perceptions and stigmas exist could translate into targeted public education programs that generate accurate awareness and legitimate understanding by the public. What are the pervasive attitudes from within the population and how can they be retooled to aid in the successful reintegration of returning citizens? When ex-offenders re-establish their lives living on the right side of the law they become tax payers rather than liabilities, providers for their children, upstanding community members; everyone wins.
